About Kisii County
Kisii County, established under Kenya’s 2010 Constitution, is one of the country’s 47 counties. It borders Nyamira County to the northeast, Narok County to the south, and Homabay and Migori Counties to the west. Spanning 1,332.7 square kilometers, the county is organized into nine constituencies and 45 wards.
With a projected population of over 1.2 million in 2012, Kisii’s demographics are shaped by factors such as land settlement and economic development patterns. Its hilly topography, fertile soils, and numerous rivers support robust agricultural activities.
The county enjoys a highland equatorial climate with two rainy seasons—long rains from February to June and short rains from September to December. This climate fosters the cultivation of crops like tea, coffee, maize, and bananas, and facilitates dairy farming.
