The Taita Taveta County is recruiting for the position of Senior Legal Officer I and applications are invited from interested persons who meets the requirements and qualifications below.

Job Description

As the Senior Legal Officer I, you will be responsible for carrying out the following duties and responsibilities.

  • Assisting to head the legal department.
  • Help create and explain departmental regulations and policies.
  • Coordinate the drafting process of Private Members Bills.
  • Head the drafting process of amendments of Bills to be proposed to the Assembly by any of the County or Committee Member.
  • Provide legal interpretation to Acts and Bills.
  • Give legal advice to both TTCASB, County Assembly Service, County Assembly and its Committees.
  • You will also be assisting with other relevant legal services for the County Assembly or Speaker as need may be.
  • Scrutinize to ensure that bills and regulations pass by the County Assembly is in cognisance with the Constitution and other legal statutes.
  • Collaborating with the Office of the Attorney General on litigation matters regarding to the County Assembly.
  • You shall also be representing the County Assembly and TTCASB in court proceedings.
  • Give legal opinion on matters concerning the County Assembly.
  • Carrying out legal research is pivotal.
  • Giving legal advice on all County Assembly papers as presented in the course in terms of debate.

Requirements for Appointment

To get appointment for this grade, applicant must:

  • Be a citizen of Kenya wit valid National Identity Card or Passport.
  • Have a broad relevant work experience for at least five (5) years.
  • Have a Bachelor of Laws degree from an approved university.
  • Be admitted as an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya.
  • Have a current practicing license.
  • Be proficient in fundamental computer applications.
  • Fulfill the requirements of chapter six (6) of Kenya constitution.
